Dino Poetry Fossil Dig

Team Phoenix students have been recruited to help on a series of digs all over the world. Because there are so many of you, we are sending you to three different dig sites. It makes the most sense to send you based on your last name for easy organization, of course. So, below, please find the dinosaur fossils that you will be looking for as you carefully dig:

A-K Cynognathus Site 2 Site 3 Site 4

L-R Lystrosaurus Site 2 Site 3 Site 4

S-Z Mesosaurus Site 2 Site 3 Site 4

By visiting these dig sites, you will be presented with quite a bit of information regarding your dinosaur. Please use the guide that is included on the back of this sheet to help you to organize your findings about your fossil.

After you have answered the questions with strong details and proof, you will begin the second stage of your mission. The head professor in charge of your dig doesn’t enjoy reading 500 page research papers, so he prefers “short and sweet.” Plus, throw in the fact that everybody in his family are world-famous poets, and you’ll see why he wants what he wants. You will choose one of the poetry forms below and will write a poem about your dino fossil. Here is the list of kinds of poems that you can write:

Emotional Animal

I Am an Animal

Animals Go to School

I Like Animals Because

You will be evaluated by your professors in the following ways:

• How well did I fill in the information for my dinosaur?

• What does my poem look like with the pictures of my fossil findings?

• Is the poem about my dinosaur free of grammar and spelling mistakes?

• Does the poem show that I have mastered the information about my dinosaur?

After the evaluation, you will receive a grade from your professors that will be a part of your Project Grade for the first quarter of study.

What will I hand in for review?

By Friday, September 25, you will hand in the following for review by the lead professors:

• At least one poem about your dinosaur

• The dig information worksheet on your dinosaur
