How has Cole changed?
Arianna: Cole's anger seems to have gone away. He trusts the spirit bear and the spirit bear trusts him back. Cole feels what it is like to be trusted for once in his life.
Jon: Cole feels that the world is beautiful and he didn't realize that before. He also realized that he destroyed so many things that he never should have.
Graelin: For once in his life he feels something beyond anger and hate. Instead, he sees beauty. Anger once controlled him, but it doesn't anymore!
What's the importance of the simile of the playground bars?
Ben: When you're holding onto a monkey bar, you'll slip at some point. Cole's on the monkey bar of life and realizes that he is about to slip and fall down.
Ariana: The monkey bar is like life because you need to hold on tight to get across.
Why does Cole say, "I am okay" at the end of the chapter?
Lydia: Now Cole is with Edwin and Garvey and they are protecting him. He's not alone anymore.
Danelle: He already fell off the monkey bar, so it doesn't matter if he dies. He's made his peace with the world.
Austin: He found beauty in life and he realizes that is enough!
Rebecca: Now that he realizes that he's okay with warmth and comfort, it's not as "big" that he'll die. This is because he now has a reason to live!
Brendan: He also realizes now that he's at the hospital that he probably won't die.
