Chapter 8 and 9 Review and Summary

Chapter 8:

The spirit bear beat up Cole. Cole couldn't move his whole body except for his left arm. Cole's skin was also ripped off near his chest. He broke his ribs, his pelvis, and his right arm. The fracture on the right arm was so bad that his bone was sticking out--open fracture. Cole pulled out some of the spirit bear's fur and he kept it in his pocket. He wanted people to believe him and to brag.

As the chapter ends, Cole is thinking about death. He also feels helpless and lonely.

Chapter 9:

1) How does Cole feel about the birds?

Cole feels anger because they are being taken care of by the mother bird. Cole feels jealous of the care the baby birds are receiving.

2) What happened to the tree?

The tree collapses because it was struck by lightning. It falls down close to Cole.

3) How did Cole feel about the birds by the end of the chapter?
Cole shows concern about the birds. This was a turning point for Cole; he had never shown concern for anything or anyone before.
