1) "You can't live until you die": You can't really understand and appreciate life until you have a near-death experience. You don't know what you have until it is gone!
2) Cole's "trail of blood" led him home. Because of his fight, he discovered many important things. He has changed his way of looking at things in many ways.
3) Realizing that he couldn't fight was difficult for Cole. He had to face the idea that he could die!
4) After Cole almost lost his life, he realized that the world is beautiful. He has seen both the bad side of life, and then the good side. He has another chance. Cole realized the importance of life.
