This awesome blog is the English classroom outside of the classroom. I also may post some random weirdness that spews out of my brain.

Analyzing a song for rhymes, theme, and chorus: Marvin Gaye - Mercy, Mercy Me
Marvin Gaye wrote "Mercy Mercy Me" in 1971, but it seems that things haven't changed that much. Are we dooming Planet Earth with the way we live? We talked about the birds and fish that have been dying by the thousands recently and that really made me wonder about how things are going.
The chorus, "Oh mercy mercy me/oh things ain't what they used to be/No, no," shows us that things on Earth aren't getting better for us...they are actually getting worse. This helps us to see the message (theme) behind Gaye's song: Man is impacting Earth and the animals on it in a horrible way. There must be a breaking point when too much is too much. What is the point...or is there even a breaking point?
We also looked at the rhymes in the song:
me/be/mercy/mercury/sea
stand/land
no/go/blow
Enjoy the snow! :)
