Good Readers (Carly and Julia) Think about Tension in Novels

Carly M. and Julia P.  are here with me now and they are bothering me, so I told them I would include them in this post.  Seriously, they are nice, nice people.  :)

Anywho, in class, we talked about how authors and movie makers create tension and suspense.  The suspense and tension in stories makes the readers/viewers nervous and makes them want to find out what happens next.  A good reader can look at events in a story, then, and understand how the author creates suspense.

For example, in Red Midnight, Ben Mikaelsen creates tension by introducing the military boat at the mouth of Rio Dulce.  This makes us nervous because we know that Santiago and Angelina need to pass through this area.  Will they get caught?  Will they escape?  We don't know, so we read ahead to find out.  If there was no suspense in novels, stories would be flat, boring, and unreadable.

That's all.  Julia and Carly are still here.  I'll survive...I'm scared though... :)

D

PS- Mr. D. was taken by suspicious aliens named of Marly and Pulia.  He may not survive.
