Good readers think about what dialogue reveals about characters and the story.
I also gave you starter sentences to discuss this:
In Chapter ____ of ___________________, ____________ talks to _______________. He/she says ___________________________. This shows us that _________________________________.
Tonight you will find a place in Chapter 16 where you learn new things about the story or the characters when you see dialogue. Here's my sample writing from Chapter 15:
In Chapter 15 of Red Midnight, Santiago talks to Angelina. He tells Angelina not to crawl too far into the cayuco's deck. We figure out that Santiago loves Angelina so much. He takes great care to protect her because she's helpless buried under the board. This also shows us that Santiago is always a few steps ahead of things. He thinks hard about the "what ifs" in life! This kind of thinking will help them to survive and will help to keep Angelina safe...hopefully. :)
