Taking notes for a literary passage on the NYS ELA

In the sixth grade ELA, there is a literary listening passage.  What does that mean?  Plain and simple, it means that you'll be listening to a story of sorts.  Most stories that have shown up on the ELA have been:

Myths
Fables
Legends
Contemporary Realistic Fiction

So, because it's a very specific kind of passage, we can use a very specific way to take notes.

1) Listen closely the first time the teacher reads the story to you.
2) Take notes the second time.

Set up your first note page like this:

Set up your second page like this:

Characters
---------------------

Conflicts
---------------------

Theme
---------------------
