Editing your Personal Narrative for word choice

1) Words have meanings.
Words also have connotations.  Connotations make us feel or think a certain way.

I didn't give up and was able to convince (positive connotation) my mom to take me.
                                                   persuade (also positive)
                                                   bribe (negative)
bully my mom into taking me (negative)

So, be careful with the words you pick.

2) Pick the words that are closer to what you actually mean.
The trophy was big gigantic.

3) Vary "said," "told," and "talked" with better, more appropriate words.

"Boys, we're ready to begin the Pinewood Derby, he said Mr. Sherman blurted out.

Think hard about better words to put into your story and--trust me--it's going to come alive!
