Empathy is the ability to walk in other people's shows and experience the world through their eyes. This is vital when you're writing your story! Remember that we want round, robust, 3D characters. We don't want flat, boring characters. :)
Remember that, from this point forward, you are going to revise as your write. Some of you will have more than 10 pages of writing by the time we're done, so it's much easier to revise on the go.
Let's take a glimpse into my mind. I had just finished the scene where Rob was pushed down by his dad and called, "pathetic baby." I have to imagine (climbing into his shoes) that Rob would be so upset that he would be crying for hours. He wouldn't want to eat. He wouldn't get any work done at all. Because of that, he'd be tired in school the next day. Also, he wouldn't get any work done and would possibly get in trouble. Worst of all, though, he wouldn't be prepared for his math test and this is when he'll fail and do poorly because he just can't concentrate.
