Writers often cite other writers as their inspiration or heroes. So, it's no coincidence that some writers often write in the style of the authors they admire most.
When I looked at The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, I remembered how much I loved that book. What was one of the best things about this story? How Rick Riordan cuts the tension and action in the story by adding comic relief.
I took that and applied it to my story. How perfect! My story was getting way too serious and was way too dramatic. By adding some humor and comedic relief, I also made my story more exciting and complex.
