Story blurbs that help us to create a realistic fiction story

We have just finished our Personal Narrative and now it's time to move onto Realistic Fiction!  Yes!  Today in class, we have taken the first steps to come up with great stories.  This is what happened:

We realized today that great writers often take events from their own lives and work that into their realistic fiction stories.  After realizing this, we dug into our brainstorms from our Personal Narratives and tried to find great story starters.  We twisted them and worked with the story ideas and turned them into Realistic Fiction stories.

From there we picked our favorite realistic fiction story and either summarized what would happen in the story or began to tell the story.

Here's an example:

My brainstorm was about the sixth graders signing "What a Wonderful World" at graduation.  I decided to turn that into a story about a girl who loves to play music.

Janie loved playing guitar.  She loved it so much, in fact, that she taught herself how to play by watching YouTube videos.  When she became really good, she got a group of her friends together and created a band.  They practiced every day and decided to compete in the Battle of the Bands.

From there, I might decide to have them win the contest, to lose the contest, or to leave the reader in suspense, not knowing who won.
